Welp, I'm back.

My chicks are experiencing some sneezing, twitching their heads as if to clear air way and a couple of them have an occasional kind of rattling sound when they breathe. I e listened to each of them with a stethoscope and I dont hear wheezing or anything. No nasal drainage no eye drainage or swelling. Everyone is eating drinking and playing. Prior to denegard, the sneeziest one was gaping alot and gasping and losing its voice. Today is day 3 since finishing up denegard (which in hindsight I shouldn't have used cause I understand it can mask symptoms if something serious) but I cant figure out if this is in fact something serious. I have 12 chicks total and yesterday I moved 5 to an outside brooder in hopes clearer air would make a difference.
I guess my question would be how on earth do I distinguish serious from not serious since they had a round of denegard?
I need to know because I can only keep 6 of the 12 but since I bought all straight run. I figured 50/50 shot of having 6 hens then I could rehome the rest. If they have something serious, I surely couldn't do that responsibly. And also, if it is something serious and life long, I'd choose to cull disinfect and start over.
Vets fees are outrageous and necropsies in virginia are 85$ and a dead bird which I dont have.
Sorry to rant, just curious if anyone has had birds with something serious and it present gently or if this sounds serious on it's own since this isn't first experience with any sort of illness.

Also does this ones eye look funny or am I being paranoid?

How much space and ventilation do they have?
I'm not sure about the eye? In the photo I don't really see anything off - can you get a photo of her in natural light and without looking through the plastic?

I am having an extremely hard time keeping humidity. They're sitting around 30 percent and I'm not sure how to bring it up.

Did these chicks come from a feed store, breeder, or hatchery? Buying straight run chicks, you are going to get a lot of cockerels. With new chicks, usually sneezing can be environmental from bedding or feed, or wet spots from water spills onto bedding that gets a bit moldy. Chicks can suffer aspergillosis or “brooder pneumonia” from mold. Since you had Denagard, have you had an outbreak of respiratory disease in your other chickens? Just asking because MG (mycoplasma gallisepticum) can make the chickens carriers for life, if the chicks are exposed.

I don't know if I would add moisture.
Personally, I don't see anything wrong with the chick's eyes.

Do you have a place to brood them outdoors? That may help you determine if it's a ventilation problem.

A few from a breed store the rest from breeders. Had I been more educated upon purchase I'd have never bought from anywhere other than a feed store or hatchery. But you live and learn. I've never had a respiratory issue before and these chicks are my only chickens. I'm aware I'll probably have too many roosters but they can be rehome so that's not a worry. I have 5 older chicks brooding outside but their brooder is inside a dog kennel with a tarp. Not sure how warm these tiny ones would be out there as my fiance is building a car in the garage so that isnt an option.

Dang, guess hes just ugly 😂😂 it does seem like since I've made ventilation adjustments that they're happier. Everyone is growing phenomenally.

UPDATE: I have learned that the woman I bought two chicks from at a swap has MS (mycoplasma synoviae) in her flock. The birds were sick when I got them home so I had put them on denegard without thinking about it. They are feathering and growing, but the two that came from her are puffed up and lethargic still and were almost 2 weeks since treatment. I've decided to cull and start over because all or my chicks have been exposed. Thankfully, the 12 chicks I have is all I have. So I will cull, disinfect/throw away alot of the things I have and start anew. My heart is so broken, but I'm thankful I haven't gone any longer binding to them as I'm raising them as pets with bonus eggs. Ugh. Thanks everyone for all of your time and advice.

I'm so sorry to hear that! :hugs

Are you planning on getting any testing for confirmation of MG?
