Okay, so I brought home 6 hens @ a month ago. I then noticed later that day one had an occasional sneeze, no discharge, swelling etc. just a little sneeze here and there & this particular one also had some cooing sounds when I held her (duh me, she was the sweetest of the 6 and I am so new to the chicken raising that I thought she was just cooing like she was happy

. I then noticed two others maybe 3 also were doing some sneezing.

So, they've been on duramycin for @ 10days. Really no difference in the occasional sneeze. No problems with eating or drinking & all appear very healthy when looking at them. Normal chicken behavoir since the day we brought them home. Only thing is I think the original one I thought was "cooing" does maybe sound like it's more a wheeze now. I do not hear the wheezing in the others just the sneezing here & there.

When I say occasional, it's not like just once in a while, it's more like if I am hanging out with them for say 10-15mins. I hear a sneeze probably 2-4 times. So, because of the wheezing in one and the more frequent sneeze (more than what I would think the norm but then again I am very new to the chicken world, I just know my others in seperate coops/runs do not sneeze at all)

Here are a few things pertaining to their new routine/home:

*Add De to food & around coop and run
*lots of rain the last month - mosquitos really bad
*other chickens in other coops but nothing out of norm. with them
*coop & run area brand new, no other chickens previously
*no real history with them other than they were with others approx. same age (18-22wks at time I brought them home)
*not sure if they were given med. feed at chicks
*no eggs laid yet

My husband is an old school country boy and thinks I'm being OCD (and I am

) & paranoid about all this but I can't help but think there is something I can do.

So, I tried to give as much info. as possible. What do you think could be the cause of the sneezing & what is my next step because it seems as if the duramycin hasn't help?

They are my pets and I just want happy beautiful, HEALTHY chickens.

P.S. we do wnat to add maybe 4 more hens but I'm afraid to right now until I figure out if there is anything serious wrong with these 1st six.

Thanks

Try Tylan 50. My vet said it's what he recommends for the respiratory problems. I also noticed when I first built our coop that there wasn't enough ventilation in the coop. Could be a real issue if you have been having a lot of rain. As soon as I added some more venting they seemed to be healthier. Wait with the other birds until your birds get better.

Actually, last night I did add some wazine to their water. Is this sufficient or should I get some thing like corid or what do you recommend?
thanks
i don t know the products you use in the states but i guest to use any wormer product for poultry in my experience on byc i see you(states) have a problem with gabeworms andthat can maybe your problem so i think you will get something if you browse on this forum

Ivermec is a good wormer & also takes care of other parasites as well. TSC & other farm supply stores carry it.
Thank you, just got back from TSC & wally world and did get some Ivermec, as well as an arsenal of other items that if appears I may need now or later. I am also dealing with scaly leg mites in 4 bantam cochins & one that, poor thing, is so raw on it's back & side, i rescued from a dude that didn't really have the best living situation for his chickens.

I am just very anxious to get all these chickens well before I move my newest babies into their new coop.

Speaking of, got home hubby told me the new coop/run #4 will be: coop = 20x7 inside a covered run measuring 25x25, so excited because the newest babies are (9) Langshan and I wanted them to have plenty of room being they get so big
All my chickens will eventually get to part-time free-range on a rotation schedule after all gets settled.

thanks everyone
