Sooo, to any of you who have seen a lot of my recent posts, you know it's been a train wreck of illnesses, injury, dog attacks, and so on. Nooow my hens are sneezing. *sigh* I don't know what it is. They are only sneezing, no other signs, at least so far. I mostly notice it in the morning at feeding time. It may be the dust in the feed...? I dunno. I'm going to make a point of listening for it during the day today. I'm about to go fill their waterers and put some electrolytes/vitamins and maybe some apply cider vinegar(?) in it. Any ideas? I have duramycin, so I could give them that, but I'd really rather not if it's not necessary, so we can still eat their eggs. But of course, if I should I totally will! I'd rather have to buy eggs for a while than lose the flock I've worked so hard to keep/get healthy! Any ideas? What would you do in this situation?

Well this has been about 3 days I've noticed it. It may be nothing (I hope) But I doubt it... I'm kinda worried. They have electrolytes and vitamins now. I'll keep an eye on them.

You can just watch it for awhile unless one gets really bad. Most respiratory diseases in chickens are viral (except for coryza) and the antibiotics or sulfa drugs are mostly for any secondary infections that they can get (pneumonia or Ecoli.) I would separate the ones sneezing from the others, but they may be already exposed. Most of these diseases can be chronic, where your chickens can get better, but get it again, and any new chickens you add to your flock may get it unless they are vaccinated. Then you need to know what they had to vaccinate--there are so many respiratory diseases. You might want top find out how to have a necropsy done by your state if you lose a chicken.

That's what I'm afraid of. If it's something chronic that they become carriers of, I can't sell my birds, I can't add new ones without them either getting it or being vaccinated, and I'll always have to be treating it (depending on what it is). I may decide to just let them lay for a year or so and cull them all. Disinfect everything and start over if it turns out that way. Gosh that sucks. I really hope it's not anything chronic. Almost all of them are sneezing so separation wouldn't do any good. It'd be easier to take out the ones that aren't, but thy have already been exposed to whatever it is anyways.

I just have to find out what is causing it. :\
