We have 4 hens that began laying about 2 weeks ago (birthday 3/09). Upon returning from 1wk vacation on Sun, we noticed one bird had a high-pitched "cough". (could be a sneeze?) We've separated her from the others. She is still laying, eating, drinking, foraging, dusting like normal. Her poop is normal consistency, not runny. No lethargy or slowdown. It sounds like she is trying to clear her sinuses, as sometimes she shakes and/or scratches her head and you can faintly hear her inhale (mouth open).

We are not really interested in going to the vet, but would like to exhaust all possibilities before we give up. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Here is a thread with similiar symptoms: (Hope it helps)

Mine have been on cynamicin now for eight days and they are beginning to show signs of turning this thing around. I only have one left that is wheezing, but this was one of the last ones to get sick. I am going to stay with the meds thru Saturday, but will take it to fourteen days if this one is still having problems. Hope everything does work out alright and welcome!!! This forum has been great and alot of people who care!!

Thanks so much!
When the birds are taking cynamycin, must you throw out the eggs?

Mine have stopped laying altogether. The first night thay they were on this soneone had laid a very soft almost clear shell and nothing since. I am not sure about eating them but I sure someone on here will know. Also the diarreha was pretty bad for the first few days, but that has stopped now.
