Snow, subzero and humidity help

-4 right now....they did their normal morning routine of run out, water, eat, naptime. We had windchills of -28 last night.

I closed the door behind them and put scrambled warm eggs and corn mash in the coop with them and a bowl of water. I'll go out and open the pop door at 1030. It should be about 0' then.

Rooster looked grumpy, as always. His door is shut too.

Tonight it is headed for -10 to -15....

Last night I put a couple of those handwarmers in a sock for the rooster. His new best friend - warm socks. LOL.

Here is the HEATED outdoor water dish this morning.

Where are you? I am outside of Alliance NE
All mine did fine last night, frost on their backs where others breathed on them or they tucked their head under their wing. No frost on the window this morning which really suprised me.

I battle humidity constantly as well. I have ventilation up high at the roof edges on the east and west sides (west at 7 feet east at 8) I also have vent holes on the east side down low, I've closed those off for now.
I would just be careful that the air flow does not go from low (below the birds) to over them and out. I had that going in that first cold snap in November, everyone said ventilation is most important, well 2 ended up with frost bite on their combs. Since i've closed the low vent and took out the high roost so they have to roost low on the west wall and no air travels over them, no new frostbite has shown up. This is such a learning experience i'll tell you. it has been 80+ humidity in my coop for the last month, but it has also been 80+ humidity outside, usually 85 or more

Nightmare.

I take their heated waterer in at night or it would be frozen by morning, I keep it in the run, not in the henhouse.

Oh your pop door to the run is open! I can't do that here. I'd be ru ni g a varmit hotel. Lol. Yup should be ok. We feed ours warm scratch about an hour before roosting at night. Little buggers are furnace factories.
Warm scratch? do you literally warm it? Heres a peek at the inside, I am not done, got to cold had to quit painting This is the East side above their run door This is the North West Corner This will is spring, each wall will have a season lol Bess is checking it out. Below I got more work done on this wall. People at the church, trees, cows and chickens by the grey house! lol
Your paintings are so beautiful! Reminds me of Ukrainian folk art.

I keep mine outside as well. Warm water inside just adds to the coop moisture. They only get it inside when the air is dry and evaporating moisture as fast as the produce it....like now.

-21 outside right now, -4 in the coop with 77% humdity. Everything open that I can, frost on the inside of the windows. But everyones combs and waddles are warm. Vasolined up and heads are tucked in. I will be out there first thing in the morning thats for sure.
