This bird's mother wasn't a RIR. Not if she hatched from a white egg. As mentioned, RIR can only lay brown eggs, its impossible for them to lay a pure white egg, even if the egg painter was on the fritz that day. It would be speckled at worst.
For the crest and the feathered legs... There either has to be more in her flock, or she bought eggs and changed her mind and sold them to you.
