I have some chickens that are a little less that a year old, and they don't like staying in their coop. Is it safe to let them out in 1-2 inches of snow? How much snow is too much for them? And what temperature should they be allowed to roam in when there is snow?

Well, I live in Florida so it has never snowed over here. I do know that they will be fine if it goes down to 30 degrees Fahrenheit, because mine survive that. How cold does it usually get where you live?

I'm sure that they'll survive at 1-2 inches of snow. But, again, I live in Florida so I don't have experience with snow. I'm sure someone who lives where it snows will come over here and help out with that. :)

I always open the coop door and let my chickens decide if they want to come out or not. If we get more than just an inch or so of snow, I'll shovel pathways for them. :)
Ok thanks. My chickens seem fine walking in snow, but my uncle's chickens' feet froze off and he had to kill them all. Is that likely with them walking in the snow so much?I live in Idaho and some days can get very cold, but I don't plan to let them out if it's less than 15. How much snow would you say is ok for them?

Mine have been out in six or seven inches often. And daytime temps down into the teens and 20's. They tend go go back and forth into the coop to warm up. So far, I've never had any problems with their feet freezing.

Ok. Their feet are pink on the bottoms and quivering. I don't know how much it takes for their feet to freeze off, but I don't want to find out. And it's not like they don't like snow. They mainly walk in it, rather than the paths I made for them. Are you sure they will be ok in snow in cold for long periods of time? They're only 10 months old.
