Kasha had found her brother Cove's scent. Finding it, she got excited and started wagging her tail. She followed it for awhile. She could occasionally see his tracks in the snow. "Obviously, he was running," she thought to herself, "but how could he jump so far?" His tracks was very spread out. She followed them for a ways until she found a small abandoned fox den. She could smell his scent going inside. She could hear what sounded like a wolf crying quietly inside.

Kasha slowly approached the abandoned fox den. "Hello?" She questioned. Almost instantly a brownish gray blur came out with a grawling bark and attacked Kasha. Wanting to defend herself, she fought back. The two of them grawled, barked, and fought for a few minutes. Kasha could tell that whoever she was fighting was stronger, but almost equal to her strength. Then she realized that it was Cove!

Kasha instantly dropped to the ground in submissive form. Cove landed on top of her and bit her right shoulder hard. Kasha yepped of pain and yelled, "It's me, Kasha! You're sister! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to fight back! I didn't know that it was you!"

Cove still stood over her grawling for about a minute. Then he realized what Kasha was saying and that it was her. He let go of her shoulder and got off of her. He kept quiet and quickly looked around just turning his head. Kasha could tell with the look in his eyes that he was scared. "I'm sorry that I startled you." She whispered. Cove twitched his left ear and backed up still looking around cautiously. Seeing him back up, she started to slowly get up watching him carefully ready to lay back down if he showed signs of wanting her to.

Kasha soon stood on her four feet. Cove was still looking around nervously with his ears back and his tail in between his right hind leg and his half left hind leg. Kasha looked around and smelled the air. She didn't see or smell any danger. In fact, she didn't even see or smell anything familiar either. She realized that they were both off of the pack's territory. She started to get a little nervous because she didn't know where they were. She had followed Cove's scent here.

"That's it!" Kasha thought. "We can just follow my scent back!" She started to wag her tail. She looked at her brother smiling. He was still in the position that he was in with that scared look on his face. She wondered what had happened and why was he all the way out here. She realized that it was him that was crying in the abandoned fox den. "Maybe he's scared and was crying because he got lost. But why'd he get lost in the first place?" She thought. She was worried about her brother and wanted to help him.

"Here," Kasha limped over to her brother. Her bitten shoulder hurt. She licked Cove trying to show him that everything was going to be ok. He let out a small grawl deep inside his throat and raised his already raised fur a little higher. Kasha paused, then licked him a little bit more. "It's going to be ok." She told him softly. "I can help us get back." "Back?" Went into Cove's mind. He didn't want to go back. He looked at Kasha. His eyes were big with fear. Kasha was confused. Had she said something scary to him, she wondered. She licked him some more hopeing to comfort him.

Cove backed up a little. Kasha could hear a small whimper in Cove's throat. "Don't you want to go back?" She asked him. Cove didn't reply. He was too scared to. Back was where that loud noise came from. The loud noise reminded him of what happened to his left hind leg. "What if it happens again?" He worried. He looked around, smelled the air and listened. He didn't know where he was either. He glanced at Kasha a little. "What if what happened to me happens to her if she goes back by herself?" He worried some more.

"No." He finally replied and nervously started walking towards the abandoned fox den. "We should stay out here where it's safe." Hearing that, Kasha wondering if he smelled humans and if he was scared of them. She didn't know what happened to Cove's left hind leg, but she started wondering if humans had something to do with it. Even if they did, though, Kasha knew that they were on other wolves territory and that they could get into big trouble if discovered. She had to come up with a plan to get him to go back, but how?

Kasha remembered something. Well, more like someone. She remembered how protective Cove can be. "We might be safe here..." She started looking at Cove to see if she had his attention. He barely paused. She continued. "But what about Lilly?" Hearing that, Cove stopped in his tracks. "Yes! I got his attention!" She quickly thought to herself before continuing. "Lilly is back there. Back there without YOU protecting her." Cove turned his head and looked at Kasha. She could see that some of his fear was leaving.

"You stay here!" Cove ran to Kasha's side and demanded. Without a second to think, Kasha instantly replied. "Stay here? But if you need help, who will help you?" "I'll be fine, stay here!" "But the other wolves! With the both of us, we must help them too, not just Lilly! That's our pack! It's OUR job to help protect them!" "Beta." Kasha paused. She wasn't going to stay here by herself in other wolves territory. "I can't," she started, "we're on other wolves territory. If I stay, I might get into trouble and possibly danger." Cove sighed. "Ok."

With that, both Cove and Kasha started running back to their pack's territory as fast as they could with them both limping. As they ran, Cove appilagized for hurting her. Kasha smiled. She could tell that Cove was still scared, and that he was ashamed of his fear. After all, he WAS a beta now. Kasha encouraged him and letted him know that it was ok to be scared sometimes. They picked up the speed as the leaped through the snow. They wasn't discouraged when it started to snow, instead, they ran faster side by side. Soon, they were back into their pack's territory. Before they knew it, they had crossed paths with their older brother Konz.

Konz disguise was gone when he approached Cove and Kasha. "There you are!" He said excitedly. "Another wolf is looking for you, Kasha." "Really?" Kasha gasped trying to catch her breath. Cove started eating the fresh snow and raised up all the fur on his back. "Oh! If you haven't heard, Cove is now the third beta! Meadow asked him to be the third beta for his bravery saving Lilly from Lark and Finch!" Kasha told Konz. "Oh, I didn't know that." Konz replied and showed his younger brother Cove respect. Cove stood up proudly and lowered the fur on his back. "Thank you." Cove said.

"We have to protect the pack from humans!" Kasha quickly told Konz. "Ok!" Konz replied. "I can help with that!" All agreeing with each other, they headed off into the woods with Cove leading the trio.
