Hi everyone! I have a banty cochin that loves to snuggle every night. And her "siblings" (9 silkies) couldn't care less of me it seems.

They are all 7 weeks old.

Anyways, here's the story that happens everynight.

It starts about 7:30 ish PM when the sun starts to go down. Farah (the cochin) starts to chirp unhappily. I go out to change their feed and water and she tries to jump onto my shoulder but I shake her off until I'm done. Just to show you how persistent she is, I was standing outside of the run and she flew up the chicken wire and started climbing it to get onto my shoulder!!! She's insane!

Luckily I have a top to the run!

Okay, the chicks are all situated and I have to tuck them in for the night. I'm in the process of teaching them to go into the coop and out of the run at night. I go into the run to put the chicks by the coop door and push them in one by one. Farah instantly jumps on my shoulder when she gets the chance and snuggles into my hair!!! I finish putting the chicks in the coop. Which isn't easy when you have a fluffball on your neck yelling at you to stop moving so much!

I walk to the deck and sit down. Farah situates herself on my shoulder and wraps my hair around her to secure herself! She constantly tries to snuggle closer into my hair and neck. Once she gets situated she will fall asleep or watch the night life with me. It's SO CUTE! I sit there for a while just snuggling with her before I have to put her to bed. I wish I could keep her in the house with me but my parents already think I'm insane for snuggling with a chicken every night!!

So I put her in the chicken coop which isn't easy. She never wants to go inside but I get her in and she goes and snuggles with the others.

I thought you all would like to hear that story and I also wanted to know if this was normal?

Anyone else have any chickens that do this?
I love it. It's so sweet I can't get enough of this chick!

And I know you people like pictures so here's one of her! I know she looks like a rooster but I'm hoping she's a girl because my parents said I can't keep any roosters...

It's not illegal here but we have neighbors pretty close. I have to keep this chicken though!

Thank you! This is my first batch of chickens ever. I was hoping for some snuggle bugs. I think I hit the jackpot with Farah.

The other chicks I have are anti-cuddly, though.

But I do love them.

I just wish she looked more like a pullet.

I don't mean to brag lol I feel bad. I don't know what I'd do without her. The other chicks are so anti-human!

I have two snuggle buddies. Cleo and Lucy. They can sure throw some massive fits when I leave the room...

Nothing at ALL wrong w/ having a snuggle-buddy chickie, pullet or cockerel either one! (and for what it's worth; unless it is an ABSOLUTE issue with your dad, I'd keep Farah even if one day Farah learns how to crow...

If you don't have a homeowner's association or some kind of zoning that FORBIDS roos, you may find that having one is really delightful. I love all my girls, but I ADORE my roos!

My chickies who are only a few days old seem to hate me when I put my hand in the cage. They just run away! But then, when I have food on my hand, and call, "Here chi chi chi chi chi chick!" they come RUNNING.

At least you have a chicken to warm you up in winter!

I think she is a he.

Biggest Rule when raising chicks: The fiendliest and sweetest of the bunch will always be a Rooster. This has proven true each and every time. There is no doupt that your little friend is a Roo, sorry.

The only time that this was not true is when there was no rooster in the mix, but that is not the case here.

Okay, so now I can ask the stupid Newbie question... Is it a HE and not a SHE because of the red comb and is that the Waddle (red) that is on the lower jawline?

I am still trying to figure out who is a SHE and who is a HE. I know I have 1 Roo out of 20.
