Snuggle chick! Anyone else with a chick like this?

BTW- my snuggle buddy, Lucy, is a cockerel.

Of course.

I know she looks like a he but that's not what I'm asking. I already made a board about that on the gender forum. I'm just wondering if anyone has a chicken that does this at night?! Because it just seems so unchicken like!

I'm sorry thechickengoesRAWR I saw your board.

Well now since we got on the question about gender and everyone says roo.... who here thinks I could keep Farah? Will it bother my neighbors? Our houses aren't city close but they are pretty close. I have to keep this little chick! Maybe I can bring her and go over to their houses and talk to them about it.

Farah thinks you're the mama hen! When she snuggles in your hair, she's thinking that she's in her mama hen's feathers. When I have baby pheasants without a mama, I suspend a bundle of feathers from the top of the brooder box. It's a great comfort to the babies. (Actually I always try to have a mama for my babies. It's just nicer for them.)

I've figured out already that the friendliest ones are the roos.. They should have that in the poultry books! Argh!

Yeah Hay if I can keep Farah.

That would be amazing if I could keep Farah but I just don't want to bug my neighbors with the crowing.

Awww really pheasantlady?! That's so sweet if she thinks I'm her mama.

Gosh how COULD I get rid of this chick!? I wouldn't be able to. Ahhh.

Love the names! We have a girl cochin named cleo short for cleopatra b/c she has big dark eyes that look lined with eye liner and we have Lucy which is a blue trio of Lucy, Ethel and Ricky.

I have two black cochins, which were our first, named Georgie and Gracie. They both love to be held and snuggle. They would sleep tucked under my arm or chin , all night long if I'd let them. My two mos old peachicks like to do the same.

Biggest Rule when raising chicks: The fiendliest and sweetest of the bunch will always be a Rooster. This has proven true each and every time. There is no doupt that your little friend is a Roo, sorry.

Is this some roo's way of self preservation? I will make you love me with sweetness so you won't eat me later with b-b-q?

I had a sweet sweet little pullet. My dog got to her and none of the other birds are nearly as sweet but my GLW do like to be petted at night time. I have 4 in the brooder - One of which is suppose to be a rooster. The only nice one is a Barred rock and she is suppose to be a she. I told my kids if the rooster is mean - he is dead meat! Roasted with some EVOO, seasalt, rosemary and a little pepper. Life is too short for mean birds. A sweet one would be wonderful.

Enjoy your shoulder sitting sweetie!

I live IN town, and although I only have one close neighbor, she has BEGGED me to keep a rooster, so she can hear it crow! It's possible that your neighbors are inside their house right now wondering when they can hear one of your birds greet the morning! Go talk to them, and find out what they think. Maybe bring them a fabulous egg casserole as a bribe that says, "love my roo, and there is more where this came from." Good luck!

Thank everyone for the feedback! I love this site. You people are so helpful.

catwalk I was thinking about taking my Farah to my neighbors' houses around 7ish when she sits on my shoulder and try to sweet talk them by letting them pet her and stuff.

I don't have any eggs yet because these are my first chickens I've ever had and they are only 7 weeks old so I have waiting to do.

I really doubt they will be looking forward to roosters crowing LOL but maybe. I sure do hope so. That would be awesome! I have about three or four neighbors that it might bother. They are all a little older and the only little kids are little grandkids so I don't know if it would bother them as much? Maybe they would understand.

One of my neighbors already brought their grandkids over to see my chicks and they already bonded with Farah. I didn't drop the rooster bomb then, though.

I hope everyone enjoys their snuggle chicks too. Everyone deserves one, I hope everyone has one!

Lol write2caroline I would never be able to eat one of my chickens no matter how mean. It's just too weird for me.

I'm the biggest softie in the world. And thank you I am enjoying Farah.

Every night 💜 I love how she floofles around in my hair and neck until she gets comfy! I always wondered what that behavior meant, but am I to understand she is snuggling in my "feathers" because she thinks I'm momma?
