So addicted! Set eggs 10/14/11! Who's my buddy?

Do you have sponges, you can put them in there and then be able to add water through the vent holes, throwing a few cut up sponges is faster then removing every thing, if you don't have sponges you can use paper towels.

I tried a hand towel soaked in hot water and it bumped the humidity up to 65% for about 1 hour and then dropped. I keep putting in hot water through the vents onto the cloth and it bumps for a few minutes. The towel is soaking and water is spreading almost to the eggs. I just ended up wrapping the pipped egg in a damp warm towel and moving all the eggs so I could take out the mat. It took so much longer than I had hoped but I was shaking. I know silly huh? Shaking over this?? The pipped egg chirped but very weakly. I just flicked off the pipped portion of the shell real quick and the membrane is like dry white paper. Does that mean its already shrinkwrapped since the humidity was down so low??? Ughhh...I know its way to early to even think of intervening. I'm not so worried about the rest now but I'm worried about this one early pipper. I'm seriously having difficulty breathing...that was the most anxious thing Ive done. Normally I'd have my hubby help me because he's the most calm level headed person ever. But with the humidity continually dropping, I couldn't wait. He is working late tonight. Go figure.

Now that you removed it is the humidity coming up? My hygrometer was incorrect and not reading right are you sure yours is?

I have 2 chicken eggs that will be incubated for 21 days on Monday. I raised the humidity today and this is the first time I have incubated anything so I am very excited and nervous, and really scared. I haven't heard anything and when I candle them I can see them. When should i hear them? I am also incubating duck eggs, which are due the 14th, 23rd, 30th, and the 2nd. We keep putting 4 eggs in for the duck eggs but we are finding that with in 8 days we only have two fertile eggs so we take the bad ones out and put more in there. i am really hope this works. Any words or thoughts to maybe ease my mind would be great it sounds like everyone here has done this before.

and welcome to the hatching party glad you could join. Now the duck eggs are supposed to go 28 days and take a higher humidity then the chicken eggs. Did you take the turner out if you have one? You will have to still turn the duck eggs. Good Luck with your hatch.

Just put him back and leave him be. Membrane (in my experience) had been white. I would take a small tall bowl put 2 sponges in the bater and leave it alone. The baby is mosy likely tired. It can take up to 24 or 36 hours to zip so dont worry till after that. Dont leave paper towel in either.

Humidity is at 68%!!! I should write a dummys guide hatching eggs...but not really how to hatch...just what not to do. I've done alot of bad things that resulted in bad hatches. Actually the pipper and another egg are moving...finally something. here's to hoping i didn't kill them all!

I'm glad it is working. # 2 chick is just about out. We have a dilemma here at our house, I have skunk in a trap and I will be dealing with this with the BF. He actually went down to our Amish neighbor to see if he will help. Keep you

we don't get sprayed. This is going to be good for some work laughs. I don't know if he is the one that stole my baby D'Uccle right out from under our hen, but it is the one that is in the trap. Sorry about his luck. Should have 2 babies in a mater of minutes. 3 are working and 3 are not doing anything.

for the skunk PHEW WEEEEEEEE

I do not have a turner I made my incubator from a cooler and did adjust the humidity a little high. because the ducks were in there but the form I read which was not in BYC said that both ducks and chickens needed to be between 50 and 60 percent for humidity. I know they are alive because since about two days ago I figured out how to candle a dark brown egg and two days ago i could see some movement in the chicken eggs and a lot in the duck eggs. I know the ducks take 28 days but the chickens are 21 days and they are due Monday. I guess I am just really scared something might happen in the next 3 days. i have been turning the eggs every 8 hours and yes getting up in the middle of the night at first but not in the middle until last night. I turn them at 6 a.m., 2 p.m., and 10 p.m. I only turn them a 3rd of a turn and every 8 hours seemed like a good number, and it seems to be working. I am just a worry wort and my kids have been watching the eggs. i am just scared i guess. i haven't turned the chicken eggs today I read I had to stop 3 days before hatching and I put a very thin towel under the egg to keep the egg away from the wire. I hope I am doing everything right.
