So.Cal here anyone else?

Welcome Sagechick!!! I'm going to guess that you're in . . . . SAGE?! Right? That's a neat area. We go camping out at Tucolota Springs. My grandpa used to own a ranch out on Sage road, but closer to Aguanga.

Nice to meet ya!

Head south from the campground on Sage Road and halfway to Aguanga is where we live. I guess John Wayne used to have a ranch just a stones throw from where we live. But then I don't suppose he was your grandfather pilgrim.
I have to hurry and get my chicks. I think that I am over-thinking this and worrying too much. We are hoping to make a home business out of this.
I have a friend who says he will take all the organic/natural eggs I can provide (400 doz. a week) at $2 per.
I will start with 25 chicks at first I think. 800 chickens is just too scary.

Yes, but I figure I'll start small that way I can see how I will do. The way I figure, for 400 doz eggs I will need

400 times 12 equals 4800 eggs a week

4800 divided by 6 eggs per week equals 800 chickens.

Or is my math fuzzy here?

800 chickens times 3 sq. feet equals 2400 sq. feet of space

Now my head is spinning.

The great chicken project.

Oh and across the road a half a mile away is a huge egg ranch. 100,000 chickens plus we figure. It's under lock and key and you can't go near it.
Should I be concerned about any illness that close?

Nope, John Wayne was NOT my grandfather. I can tell you exactly which ranch was my grandfather's and I bet you know where it is. Today, it's the Sundance Meadows membership RV park. As I understand it, it's still a working cattle ranch as well as an RV park. It was just a cattle ranch when he owned it.

I was out there a couple of years ago with my mom and her half brother to take a look at it. Pretty cool place. Too bad it's not still in the family!

What is? Not really sure what you're responding to.

So, do you know where Sundance Meadows is? It used to be called Rancho Ramona back when my grandfather owned it. I'm sure it's changed a lot since then (back in the 1920s and 1930s - my grandfather was almost 80 when I was born) and I understand the next guy who owned the property had some Hollywood connections, as did my grandmother who ran a Hollywood catering company. So since others with Hollywood connections lived out that way, it wouldn't entirely surprise me if John Wayne owned a ranch out there as well.
