Hi from a total newbie :frow

I’m a full time single mom w 2 kiddos (13 & 8 yr old) and we live an urbanish life in Orange (Southern California).

We just got a coop, a diy brooder and 4 new chicks. I’ve been Chicken obsessed for about 7 yrs. Brooder set up is inside our family room right now. I’m about to raise the water and food up cuz they keep kicking shavings into it.

Our current babies are Sicilian Buttercup, Ostrolorp, Rhode Island Red & an Ameraucauna

I’ve been ghosting on BYC for about 7 yrs, ever since a friend had her girls in their backyard and we were happily getting eggs every week. It was fun for the kids. And a great experience watching them all learn the hen life.

I work from home. We have a veg garden - and are expanding it to include the coop so the girls will be able to wander.

We also hv a cockatiel and a basset hound. The hound is fine with the cockatiel but idk how she will be w the hens.

I am completely learning this chicken raising thing from scratch :barnieso help me Lord. Thankful for this site and everyone’s postings.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

Cute chicks, thanks for sharing a photo!

Just a word of caution, if you let the chickens roam in your garden, you won't have much garden left for you (those stinkers will clean it out).

Best of luck to you and thanks for joining us!
