What a great birthday present for you! My incubator was my present to myself, lol. I'm hatching out some mutts, I figured I didn't want to risk something really important for my first hatch. These guys came from another BYC'er who was kind enough to ship them to me. She said that in the pen these eggs came from there were Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, Welsumers, and one Buff Orpington. She sent me some beautiful baby blue eggs that I believe are the Welsummer eggs, some light brown ones, and a few off white ones. I really am not for sure which are which, and they could be mixes anyway. I just want to see the little darlings hatch. Two of the light brown ones are the ones that are moving around. The blueish ones are the ones I can't see through to tell if there is anything viable or not. I am a nervous wreck. I can't stop thinking about the eggs and I found myself getting up to check a hundred times today for signs of movement. The advice seems to be to not turn them anymore, so I won't. Now I will just wait and watch. I really hope these hatch! If I get good at hatching I want to get some sebrights, silkies (any color BUT white since I already have that color), and my kids want bantam turkens and sussex. This hatching I suspect will be addicting...

That's cool a bunch of mutts! That would be really fun to watch them grow and see what they turn into.

I know I was thinking the same thing about hatching... I hope it's not too addicting but.. yeah lol.

Just a half hour ago I realized MY eggs were moving!!!! I removed the egg turner, unplugged the last vent plug and added a dixie cup of water for humidity... I was freaking out!!! I'm a nervous wreck.. an even nervouser (new word!

) one now! Later today I was going to go and buy some sponges for humidity but I guess there's a lesson learned: always be prepared.
I will never get to sleep tonight...

I hope your hatch goes well too!

That is really interesting about the blue eggs. Welsummer eggs are supposed to be a dark terra cotta, & I think the other chicken breeds in there lay brown eggs too.

I am excited to see what comes out of which egg. Are you going to keep track?

Good luck!!!

Now I am even more excited to see what comes out of these eggs! I wonder if the two light honey colored eggs are the Buff Orpington eggs? I have no idea what the BLRW or Welsumer eggs are suppose to look like, but I probably have a bunch of cross breeds and no purebreds, but that's ok with me. As far as I know though, the hens that laid the eggs are purebreeds. I didn't turn them last night or this morning. I hope I am right to do that. One egg seems to have moved away from all the other eggs, I noticed that last night, and before I went to bed I checked them to see if I saw movement. I did see the one egg moving. This morning I didn't see anything moving, but then again, they could just be sleeping. I really hope at least 2 hatch cause I don't have access to other brand new chicks to get one to keep it company if only one hatches. The kids I have in the brooder right now are already 3 weeks old and would trample a newly hatched chick, and I wouldn't want to risk losing these new babies. Arrggghhh! Still have 3 days to go! This is nerve wracking! This is worse that waiting for my own kids to be born! Well, it seems like it is. I had my last one nearly 10 years ago, and my memory is a bit foggy, but this seems so much more nerve wracking! I keep checking for signs of a pip. So far, nothing. I really hope I am doing everything right. I have water at the bottom, temp is holding steady at about 102, oh dear Lord in Heaven, please let these babies come into the world with few complications. Let them be born healthy, and loved. I felt another little prayer was needed. Ok now, only 3 days to go...

Still on a count down here. Two days left to go. This is nerve wracking!!! We see for sure 2 eggs moving, and I would swear I saw one of the light blue ones move this morning. I don't hear anyone making any peeping noises inside the shells, and I find myself constantly going over to peek through the window and watch for movement. My kids are giving me updates about every ten minutes, lol. They are as excited as I am. My ten year old has her face plastered to the window as I type this. This is a real lesson in patience for them, and for me! I had a scare this morning when I went to check on them and the temp was almost 108. I added water and lowered the temp and now it seems to be around 104, but it isn't lowering. The chicks are still moving around, so I guess I haven't messed up yet. I keep hoping they will hatch early. I'd like to see them hatch tomorrow so the girls and I can watch them hatch. I don't have to work tomorrow so we would have the whole day to watch them hatch. Even my mom is getting into this. I find her peeking into the incubator from time to time. She never pictured herself as owning chickens, but now that she does, she loves it. She doesn't go out to the coop too much, but the babies inside the house are spoiled rotten by her. I keep telling myself, only two days now, only two days... Oh, come on and hatch already!!!
