Just placed an order for 12 chicks for my San Francisco backyard coop! I can't wait for them to arrive early April.

I ordered:

1 Barred Plymouth Rock
2 White Plymouth Rock (I want to name one Camilla after Gonzo's chicken.)
2 Australorp
2 Silver Laced Wyandotte
2 Easter Egger
1 Silver Cuckoo Marans
2 Blue Andalusian (Hope at least one is true blue.)

I will be sure to blow up this forum with updates as the little guys mature.

What hatchery did you order from?

Mypetchicken.com I read some good reviews and I can't order from farms with 25+ minimum orders. That's way too many for my house/backyard (and city laws)

Next time you might consider Ideal hatchery in Texas. They have a very small shipping charge if your bird order totals $25. You can also order as few birds as you like.

Congrats! I have 15 chicks coming from cackle hatchery on the 15th, I've ordered from cackle before and had some excellent chicks!I've heard good things about Mypetchicken.com but I've never ordered from them before.

I CANT WAIT EITHER!!!! mine are coming from Meyer and are supposed to be here march 27-29!!!!

6 bantams

  • 2 silkies (one white one black)
  • 2 Seabrights (one gold one silver)
  • 1 EE bantam
  • 1 Barred rock bantam

SOOO EXCITED!! has anyone had god/bad expearince with Meyer????

I ordered the Large Fowl Layer's Special (25 pullets of various breeds, their choice) from MPC last year and was very happy with the chicks. It was the first time I had that many chicks at once, but it was still wonderful. The cost was $49.95 for 25 chicks, SHIPPING INCLUDED. Great special!

I also like that MPC will sex bantam breeds, which none of the other hatcheries will do.
