Hello All! My name is Dreama and I live in West Virginia. I am a new to the art of chicken raising and this site has been a HUGE blessing!!!! I purchased my very first four Rhode Island Red baby chicks (Ruby, Caramel, Cupcake and Leelah) from Tractor Supply on May 6th. I am hoping for hens but we shall see! I was also “gifted” with three White Leghorn hens (K, F and C) that were supposedly laying daily on June 11th and still no eggs! In addition to my new found hobby I also am “Mommy” to a 2 year old buckskin gelding named Harley, a 1 year old doe pygmy goat named Lilith, a very ornery 2 year old miniature jack donkey named Mikey, a white Peking duck named Aflac that refuses to take a bath and 2 kitty cats (Rose and Ash). I work full time in the coal industry. I am married and have 2 amazing daughters. I am very excited to have found this site and look forward to all the words of wisdom to my hundreds of questions that I am sure ya’ll will have the answers to! Promise to post pics of my mini flock soon!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you have a busy farm! Do you know how old the leghorns are? Hens sometimes do take awhile to settle into a new home and start laying again, but leghorns are usually good consistent layers and start up again pretty fast unless they are molting or something, so hopefully KFC wills start up soon (love the names)... you could post pictures of them in case someone can see something going on with them.

Nice to meet you Dreama, looking forward to pictures of your animals. "ornery," and donkey doesn't sounds like a good thing. How big (weight) do mini jack donkeys get?

Welcome to BYC, Dreama. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Our children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Hello! I am told the leghorns are less then one year old and laid daily until I got them! I am posting a couple of pictures of them. Why do the combs vary so much between them? Big bright red comb (K) on one and the other two (F & C) have barely there non existent pink dry combs. I am told all of them are the same age. Hehehehe my daughters named them! Thank ya'll for your help.
