So exciting, I have an EGG!!

Oh im sorry! Its okay, it happens.

Did you keep it? If you broke it, i still would keep it. I think its adorable to make a little box with a picture of your chicken and the eggs it lays/came out of. If its broken, it resembles a chicken hatching out of it, which still is adorable.

Personally, i like to add an egg in every year, so you see how old the chicken was and how the eggs slightly varied.

Anyway, sorry again! She sounds like shes a really good layer! My chicken has almost never missed laying an egg, so about 330 eggs annually, thats really good! She probably would be the same.
I have pictures of the egg and chicken. I still have it, but doubt I’ll keep the egg now that it’s broken. So far she has only missed one day. I’m anxiously awaiting the others to start laying.

I have Leghorn, ISA Brown, and Barred Rock all about 15/16 weeks . One of the Leghorns has been exhibiting signs that she was going to lay soon. Her comb got big and red, she squatted when I put my hand over her, and she has been digging up the nesting boxes. I bought them oyster shell last week and they have been pecking it (including the rooster. Weird, but I have seen him eating it the most!) I also put some fake eggs/golf balls in each box.

Anyway, I expected this Leghorn to lay an egg any day now. This morning she was doing her dinosaur screetching a lot more than usual. And, then this afternoon, a little white egg was found in the run. I’m so excited!!!

Now I’m wondering, is there anything I can do to encourage her to use the boxes from now on? I really don’t want her laying eggs in the run or for that to encourage the others to do the same when they are ready to lay.
We too, just got hens this year, and their 1st egg was like a jewel!! Amazing how much JOY a chicken egg can bring! Congratulations!!
