Oh, no, I wouldn’t keep it non hollowed. That would be stinky! LOLYou shouldn’t keep it non hollowed. Some explode, especially near very hot temps. It also may smell.

Here is what my boxes look like. (There are five, but could only fit three in the pic frame) Do you recommend curtains? If the nesting pads do not work, you may want to add grass hay and form a bowl shaped nest in the boxes.
They look beautiful. I don’t have curtains, but find they like it very dark. Here is what my boxes look like. (There are five, but could only fit three in the pic frame) Do you recommend curtains?
My suggestion would be to put a board across the bottom front (4" or 6" tall). That will minimize the amount of material that they kick out as they naturally scratch around in there. That will make your life easier. Here is what my boxes look like. (There are five, but could only fit three in the pic frame) Do you recommend curtains?
As for laying in the nests, I wouldn't sweat it. 1st (and sometimes 2nd) eggs are often layed outside of nests because the bird has not yet figured out what "that feeling" is. Once they understand that they are about to lay an egg, they will naturally want to go where the other eggs are.
Oh im sorry! Its okay, it happens. She has laid an egg every day since her first one in the nesting boxes.I’m so happy about this!!
And, I tried to blow out the first egg to keep it, but I accidentally broke it.Oh well.
That's what I have, straw in the nesting boxes only, and I put ceramic eggs in. The hens must like it cause, they've started laying. Although I do have one hen laying outside the nesting boxes and under the main perch, ughIf the nesting pads do not work, you may want to add grass hay and form a bowl shaped nest in the boxes.
Congratulations!! My hens got their first egg a couple weeks ago and the others are now joining in!!She has laid an egg every day since her first one in the nesting boxes.I’m so happy about this!!
