Well, in this case, it wasn't hard to tell. The way I could tell Maretta's (EE) yellow chick from Rita's (Wyan-Amer X) chick was that Maretta's has a beard. The comb is so tiny, I can't tell yet if it's a single or just a pea with prominent single ridge. There were just three eggs, Maretta's and two of Rita's, that were fertile. My Delaware rooster is getting up in age so he mates fewer of the hens, sticking mainly to his favorites in his old age.
