So Far, I Hate Them!

never had them. love them. neighbor had them, but his wife and my mother HATED the noise. I thought it was very amusing. reminded me of old bed springs when they were calling to each other. then the alarm! lol. now they are gone... I miss hearing them.

I LOVE the guineas I got this year ~~ !!!!!!!!
But if you hate the noise, Then Never, Never get Peas!!!!

Mine started to roost in the trees very early on.
I was camping out in the back yard a month ago, to
keep the coyotes at bay while I had a peahen nesting near the house.
Three o'clock in the am, I witnessed an owl fly into the roost and scattered them
while he got his meal.....
I penned 'em. They are only a couple of months old, but am afraid to let them out again,
for fear of losing more.

If you cant stand them, there will be someone out there that will want to take them
off your hands!

This is my first batch of guineas. They are 9 weeks old and are quiet except when they fly. They do sound an alarm when something flies overhead which is good. They do well with my buff orpingtons that are 8 weeks old. They do get a little squawky waiting for me to let them out of their pen when they see me. I guess I am lucky for now.

Ours are a mere 5 weeks old and I am amazed at how they still flock together and listen to their chicken mama. I'm not sure how to keep them off the roof of the henhouse, though! Let's hope they keep thinking they are chickens and hang out in the henhouse at night.

My guineas were a royal pain in the butt till a couple months ago, when they suddenly became well behaved and a lot quieter. Just a suggestion, if you want them to stay further away from your house, put their coop as far away as possible.

Oh, one BIG caveat: It you park your cars outside...watch them like a hawk when the guineas begin to roam further than your deck/house. Ours decided to use our vehicles as afternoon perches and scratched the heck out of the paint. Needless to say, my husband was ready to kill them and decided they were the worst thing ever: Then we got turkeys.

Now, turkeys have taken his most hated spot since we have to clip their wings every two or three weeks. Miss a clipping and it is guaranteed we can look out the window and find turkeys perched on the tractor and ladder racks on our business truck in the evening....followed by my husband chasing them with a broom.

I use tp hate them......until I got my own. Now I love them. Our new place was infested with ticks....even with 300 chickens...geese....ducks...turkey. I got guienas...and no more ticks. I never believed it till I saw it first hand. I have learned a lot of their calls als they alert me.and the dogs to stuff. Mine.freerange 24/7. They are.pretty quiet unless they see something.

We have 4 guineas and really would like to get more. They are very noisy and everyone that comes says they are ugly and too noisy, but I don't care because I know the good that they do and I seem to overlook everything else. They are very good watch animals, warning if something wrong comes close. We have chickens and ducks also,so I am not sure which or all are keeping our mosquito population down. I would tend to think it would be the guineas. We live on 4 acres and everywhere they seem to hang out we don't have mosquitos. I love our little group (not sure what they are called, flock?) and I wouldn't trade them for anything. They were getting a little agressive with my chickens so I moved them in with our goats and everyone seems happier.
