I am am not only a new member to Backyard Chickens but also new to chicken raising all together. I live in the rural upstate of South Carolina, with my sweet wife and two "all boy" boys. Me and the boys decided last spring we wanted chickens and came home from the hardware store with four Rhode Island Red chicks. We built a coop and have had a lot more fun from chickens than I would have thought. Eggs are coming in very regular and our birds are spoiled like you would not believe. Now I want more. I am thinking Barred Plymouth Rocks next.

Barred Rocks are fun. I had a couple but you might also consider Dominique's They sort of look like Barred Rocks but have rose combs.

This is my Grandmother in Washington State 1917ish with Dom's There are some breeders up your way.

Enjoy the chickens. I think I prefer watching the chickens more than TV.
