So getting another male seems to have backfired.....

So our duck flock started out with 2 girls, than I added a boy, then I added 4 more girls and then we added one more boy to provide more awareness for our girls because they are care free and never pay attention. When it was just the one boy things went pretty well he would fight the chickens and the geese off to protect his ladies and we thought adding anlther male would assist in that but it has backfired. Now our first male doesnt fight off the geese or the chickens he is only worried about the other male.

Any tips on making our flock a flock again? Thanks.

I personally would just rehome the second drake. 1 drake should easily cover 6 ducks especially in the spring.

Come spring yes. Your hens will also become over bred. Some people's flocks work with a 1:1 ratio. However, most of the time this fails miserably. I would only keep 1 drake with 3 ducks.

I am trying to look at alternative to rehoming him. I am super weird about animal abuse and neglect and I have a super hard time rehoming an animal when i know they have a good life with me, you know?

Then your only other option would be to separate them into two different flocks. Drake fighting can get very violent especially in the spring time. Drakes can be severely injured or even killed.

I agree, I have 3 drakes to 10 ducks and I have to keep my drakes and their girls separate from one another, it can get pretty nasty here if the drakes get going. Come fall they can all be together again. Whew will that be nice,.

I am the same way with mine, so if you can separate them into diff flocks that will work best. Thats what I do.

So what is a good ratio females to males. I do not wat my grls overbred or any damage to there bodies. Right now it will be 2:1 I had a girl pass away yesterday and one is inside right now with a horrible foot infection she still isnt out of the woods.....

I prefer at least 3 ducks per drake. Some people can deal with a 2:1 ratio but many still find their ducks overbred.
