This is what's going on. I went to check temp on the incu and it died. The temp was 80 or so I think cuz I was freaked.
So I took it to another plug as it had been in an extension cord, but nothing.
So now what, I thought. I have a hen in my office who had just hatched two chicks and I thought maybe she'll take them on. I put two in the box and she looked at 1 and then pushed it under her and then after some time the other. So I went and got the other 7 and She pushed them under her and I thought ok this'll work. But then when I checked a couple minutes later she had gotten off the eggs and her and the chicks had moved away and were near the front of the box. So I thought now what.
I decided to try taking the chicks away but even w/ them in another room she could hear them and she was freaking out.
So now what? I have another hen brooding eggs but she has 10. She is a large CM first timer as is the one w/ two chicks. So I got a basket and took them out to the hen and tucked them in under her. If you've ever seen a broody they are in a trance. I didn't turn the light on as that might have upset her. At first it didn't look like she was going to cover them and I turned on a red heat light that I had put up, but hadn't turned on yet. At last check she had spread herself over all the eggs so I'm saying a prayer and keeping my fingers crossed. They only had 9 days to go.
My point in telling you all this is so if you find your self in this situation it may help you out.
I'll keep you posted as to how things turn out. I think all the eggs are only a few days apart. Course the 9 from the incu are the same hatch date.
If you've read my posting about the hen w/ two, she hatched those in an unheated coop so I don't underestimate the power of a broody hen.
