Hi, my name is Grace and I love chickens. I recently received notice that I was in violation of a township ordinance and I have until September 30th to remove my chickens from the property. UGH!!! I'm so glad I found this forum since I found a lot of useful information that I hope will allow me to keep my chickens.

Sounds like you are planning to fight it??? Any idea what you plan to do?
 
Welcome to BYC, Grace. Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm so sorry that you're going to have to give up your chickens. Some of our members have successfully challenged their local chicken ordinances and been able to get them changed. I would suggest posting on our Local Chicken Laws and Ordinances (and how to change them) section at https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/37/local-chicken-laws-ordinances-and-how-to-change-them and see if anyone there can help you. Hi Grace, welcome to BYC!

I hope you can bring your local officials around to letting chickens be allowed. It would be devastating to have to give up your flock. Maybe you can convince them by inviting some over to see your set up...that it's clean, the birds are healthy, that they are secured. And if you can recruit some of your neighbors to your side, that might be helpful, maybe they would be willing to sign a petition or make written statements that they don't mind the chickens.

I've been reading a thread on here regarding Michigan's Right To Farm Act. There have been a lot of helpful links and I'm going to go that route. I think its just a shame I have to use up so much of my time for such nonsense. I mean really! It's a law vs. an ordinance. Law wins, and I hope I do too.
