So hard to prove a negative.

Not the point. In today's hard scrabble economy, noone has an extra $1,000 laying around to buy enough plywood to cover all their windows.

Wouldn't this current administration have just loved the statistical result of 5 million households, from Key West to Kill Devil Hills NC running out and buying 10 sheets each, of needless plywood, along with the fasteners, drills, saws and ladders to install it all.

Wouldn't the businesses have loved it too??

And I am puzzled over conservatives who dislike this administration. Like Clinton Obama has been a very good conservative president. The far right is not conservative any more.

Ohh this makes me mad. No, the earthquake wasn't big. But a hurracane is NOTHING to mess around with people. If it wern't for the "useless" evacuations a few of my close friends would be DEAD. So no. We know what were doing thanks. If you haven't ever been in a hurricane, we don't need your help. Thanks for the offer

Well, one of the main reasons is because of a statement made by, then chief of staff, Rahm Emmanuel.." Never let a crisis go to waste."

Sadly, everything in this administration seems to be a crisis, and if it isn't, it will be, when they get done with it.

This is a country of individualists and free thinkers, or used to be...We don't like someone else dictating the direction in which we must go, like a herd of mindless sheep.

Conservative? Huge debt, Obama care and no direction over the debt except I won't sign that. I don't think so. At least his biggest vice is an occasional cigarette unlike Bills cigar use.

I honestly think a significant part of the problem is the voting public. A number of people who freely talk about who they vote for admit to not researching the candidates, they just pick who has the better campaign.
Yes, appearance, speaking ability and flashy campaigns play a part in getting votes, but people really need to look at candidates histories. How new are they to politics, what have they voted on that's in my best interest, what have they voted on that could hurt me, what lies or truths have they told, how have they handled previous offices, what was their approval rate when they left those offices, are they involved with any shady groups or dealings. People need to look past magazine covers and rally speeches before choosing who they feel best represents them.
There are plenty of websites that do fact checking on political figures, both partisan and non-partisan. Political histories are usually easy to access to see what they voted on, what offices they've held, and what their real stance is on issues you care about.
IMO, the worst offenders are straight ticket voters that don't even look at the campaigns, they just go to the polls and vote based on color preference.

I could care less for which side you vote on, but I do care when people vote without thinking first. That's how we get into constant headbutting situations like the current administration has been.

As for evacuations, storm preparedness and general caution, I'd rather be over prepared than under. Many storm supplies don't go bad, and if you live in an area where severe weather is common, you'll probably end up using the supplies sometime.

But if you live in a hurricane area you should have something to cover your windows anyway. Even if you don't use it for "this" storm, you will need it at some point and usually can save on your insurance if you have it. (Most of the windows in my house are hurricane rated glass but the insurance company doesn't care - they have to be covered. Plus shutters are a lot cheaper than replacing those windows)

If people would plan ahead, they could buy the window coverings one window at a time and not have to spend a ton of money at once. Same with other supplies - a little at a time all year long.
