Personally I wouldn't mind giving away all the roosters when they are discovered but no one will take them. I have given away hens but again no one will take them when they are past their prime, this is why I choose dual purpose birds. GC's and production reds and the like are good for nothing once they quit laying. Most of us are not running an "Old Chickens" home.
If you are breeding for show you can't always tell what he or she will grow up to look like. I had one that turned out to look like an old girl friend, she broke my heart, so I had no problem taking it's head off.
