So my dot heads are males and solids are females?

A person can not make a red sex linked from just any cross of a gold male on a silver female. Some genotypes do not work very well and produce poor results (miss identification). Extended black and birchen chicks can not be color sexed.

In black sex linked crosses the males have a white patch on the head(courtesy of the barring gene) and females have solid black heads.

How fast should the roos be ready for eating?

Surprisingly in the chicken world, size does not matter. I have PLENTY of chickens running around the yard that have a dutch bantam daddy. Many of the hens are RIR, cochin LF, and who-knows-what LF. I know the dutch roo is the daddy, as he was the only roo I had at the time.

Well Thank you for that information. I was always told that the Roo had to be the same size or bigger than the hen. Learn something new every day. Thanks again.

conviniatly (sp?) we have a JBG pullet, and a couple cuckoo maran roos(still young) but! if I crossed them, would they look similar? LOL, not saying I'm going to but...I LOVE THOSE CHICKS FEETS!...I a sucker for multi colored feet on chicks and ducklings.

I have found my crossed chicks to mature faster and the older ones seem like they are a little better egg layers. I will know for sure come winter.

I have a Cherry Egger Roo, a sex link Roo (which I was told was an EE when purchased) and a Speckled Sussex Roo, which cross with a various number of hens (Austrlorp, Ameraucanas, Cherry Egger, Jersey Giant, Silver Duckwing, Red sex link, etc.) I adore the uniqueness of my babies and their colors and have had a lot of people want them.
