So I have the opportunity...

I have the opportunity to acquire one or two peacocks to add to the farm. Both are males, but I do not know their ages yet. I have been looking for info on keeping two males together or just a single male on his own, but haven't really found anything. I can provide a large, secure pen and plenty of gamebird food, but I don't want to bring them both home if they wouldn't be able to get along with each other or if one by itself would be miserable without a female. I will probably be able to find a female or two in the spring, when they are more likely to be available. So they/he would not stay single forever. I'd appreciate any advice on whether they would be content to spend the winter with each other as company. Or, if not, whether one by itself would be ok.

Go for it.....this time of year would be great time...they will have a pecking order ,will be fine together

Two males would be fine together! Just like deerman said now is a great time to get them. If you get them durring the summer breeding season they would be more likely to fight or be agressive but they will be calmer now.

Males will hang out with other males so they should be fine.

If the person who owns them already has been keeping them together in the same pen or something then that is good too.

That trip to get your first peafowl is always the best. The whole time on your trip back home you keep turning around to look inside the dogbox to make sure they are okay!

Releasing them into the pen is exciting too.

Have fun with them, they will quickly surprize you with their personalities and with all the strange sounds they make.

I am hoping that they have shed their tails so they will fit inside the crate without me cutting the feathers. Or is it possible to just tuck them in? It would be an hour drive, so I want them to be comfortable and I know that the feathers will grow back.

I love the call that male peacocks make. There is a guy a ways down the road that has some and on a clear night this summer you could hear them calling. Such an exotic and thrilling sound!

Right now they should have really short trains so you probably won't have to worry. When we got our peacock though, we just happen to have a really long dogbox that we placed him in and his train was still too long so the dogbox door was just a few bars so we were able to stick the end of his train through the bars and his train wasn't messed up at all! In fact it was funny watching people that were driving behind us stare at the peacock train comming out of the dogbox!

LOL, peacocks were made to be stared at anyway. I talked to the guy I'd be getting them from and he said that they've dropped all their long feathers, so I shouldn't have to worry about it now. I'll be making the trip out to see them tomorrow. Supposedly they are a four year old Pied and a five year old India Blue, and hopefully I will be bringing them home with me.
