So... I put fake eggs in the coop, AND...

Ours laid on their own so we haven't put the wooden ones in. It's funny, though...a couple of them always use the nesting boxes but the others just drop 'em on the floor. Yesterday I collected one that looked as if one of them had had a good peck at it...good sized dent, but the membrane hadn't been broken. That was the first time, tho...hope it stops.

Ok, I took the golf ball out of the box this morning. And I just checked on them and there is an egg in the box that they where using (the one without the ball) I can't see that any of them touched the other box. And go figure I put the egg in my pocket while I was filling the feeder and waterer like I usually do. This egg broke.:( a hen just stood there staring at me with a depressed look while I tried to get the egg back out of my pocket. She normal won't let me get to close to her. After the egg incident she wouldn't move out of my way to let me go out. She even left me pet her! Played like I didn't exist....lol I think she was a little mad.

She didn't even go in the coop for her nightly feeding of cabbage with the other hens, she just stood there starring at the broken egg. If she is this emotional about a broken egg, then boy she is gunna be ****** when I butcher the queen of the coop in a day or two!!

Harleyguy was she the hen that layed the egg? My girls acted almost in a trance and could barley move just stood there dazed after laying their first eggs. I was actually worried something was wrong. Now they just sneak off lay the egg and come strutting out when their done. Mine are quiet about the whole process so far we don't hear any "egg songs" The queen of our coop does alot of talking and clucking all the time, not sure about any laying yet?

The queen of the coop is a rock game hen that weighs at least 10 lbs. She can't even walk. I have to get her out of the coop every morning and put her to bed every night. The other hens don't mess with her and rather than peck at her they protect her. She really is the queen of the coop. They cower to her bawks....lol. but as I said she is so fat she can't walk, so its dinner time for her!
