so I want to be a chickie mommy

Oh boy have I been reading and READING... breeds... coops... how to design best to allow for ease of cleaning feeding and PROTECTING the poor lil things.... a run for them that is covered because I see hawks ALL THE TIME around .... I am driving my poor husband batty with my Chicken Ideas.... I am just getting SO antsy to get moved to a new house! We currently have rented the house we are in for almost 3 years and though the HOUSE itself doesn't bother me much we are right on top of all of our neighbors in the subdivision .... we know we want an acre or more when we BUY.... I cannot WAIT to have some breathing room! ugh. and getting some chickies and planning a coop and learning all about them and deciding on a breed/breeds is wonderful fun!

Today we visited our local Tractor Co store and they are expecting chicks this week and had these big wonderful stuffed animal chickens and since I have to wait till June to have any real ones.... I got one that crows and is fluffy.. just for fun ( my little boy is in the picture with it <<<----------------------) LOL so fun!
I really do love Silkies... I emailed a lady over in Lutz,FL to see if we might visit her ( it appears maybe she breeds them?) but honestly I am SO a beginner I think I may start my little flock with some hardier ladies to begin and become more of a chicken pro before I get some of those cute lil fluffballs :) meanwhile my little boy is SO excited! we look at chicken books and I spend my evenings reading everything I can soak up on BYC and I am sure we will "visit" the chickies at the feed stores and anticipate getting to bring home a couple in several months once we can get moved and set up for them :) bockabockbock *V*
