That's interesting? Perhaps the bag you had for some reason had the sulfa drug instead? Sometimes formulations do change on feeds despite what the website says, so you'd have to look at the bag. And if the mill used the same equipment and some of the amprol feed was contaminated with the previous run of sulmet feed, it might be a a mix.

I don't think you can be allergic to the amprolium directly, even if you ate the chicken feed yourself. It is just a thiamine blocker that acts by being a thiamine analog. In other words, when your cells are growing, instead of using thiamine as one of the four building blocks, it snatches up the amprolium and incorporates it into the DNA instead. This inhibits fast growing things such as the cocci so it cannot reproduce, but shouldn't make a large animal like a chicken or human sick.

If you're known to be allergic to sulfa drugs, I bet that was the issue. Of course, better safe than sorry when it comes to your health.
