So im starting an EE/Ameraucana/blue egg project

Quote:
Araucana's havt tufts Ameraucana's have facial muffs only tufts cause the fatal gene that kills chicks in the egg. So I'm not going to have any problems with that mortality gene

I'm in the early stages of an egg color project, but I'm aiming for a spotted teal egg. It's going to be a LONG project! LOL

So, someone fill me in here. . . What again is the goal? The colors EE's come in from hatcheries already are available in Ameraucanas, just more standardized (not mixed up)

Otherwise, with EE's there is still leg color, skin color, and body type to tackle. Not all EE's are like Ameraucanas in type.

Again people - The fatal tuft gene is ONLY so when you breed tufted x tufted. There is NO mortality rate when you breeed tufted x non-tufted, and either way you'll get 50/50 anyway.

Hey there! Check out my first post and I believe it will answer your question, I know this is going to be LONG difficult project, but will be fun and should at least get some really blue eggs at the end of this!

Ah, then, I guess it just goes around a lot so that I get lost and didn't quite get the goal. Sorry. So, you're not looking for a new color? Just blue eggs?

Personally I'd disagree about the non-blue eggs found in Ameraucanas and Araucanas comment. Have you tried a decent number of them? There are some BBS and Wheaten Ameraucanas out there with outstanding BLUE color, not just that robin's egg color, and then the Araucanas, well, they're pretty rare in the first place so have you tried 'em? Also, a lot are indeed bred solely for show, which pushes egg color aside so some indeed are a tad green, but I myself have some very BLUE layers.

Not pushing ideas out the window, just giving good info and suggestions. You don't have to give up on the purebreds just yet if you had or seem to find bad luck. If you want to try a project, adding a new color to one of those breeds would indeed be a fun and much anticipated thing.

Blue egg color is the short term goal, and would like to see what type of feather colors I get afterwards and possibly come up with a new feather color pattern for ameraucanas.. I'm aware that some ameraucana's lay a beautiful egg. I haven't worked with pure strains yet. Honestly I can't find any near me. And I have had terrible luck on shipped eggs and can't afford too many gambles on expensive eggs..And have come to the conclusion that the postal workers in North MS shack up eggs because they are ignorant. This project is not only going to be accomplished with EE's mainly just using them for new blood and hopefully a new feather pattern. I found a guy who has really nice white ameraucanas hens but no rooster. So his hens will be a good introduction into what I'm doing, I'll take some pictures soon to show what I'm working with

Pips&peeps and John Blehm (chickhatchery.com) both ship purebred Ameraucana chicks.

Gary Ramey (geareduplynn) ships purebred Araucana chicks.

If you're ever interested in adding them to your project.

Agreed!

Illia, why didnt know about your blue egg layers? I should have bought some of those and had them mailed with the other lol. I need to find a Hatchers Anonymous meeting around here.

Sounds like a fun project. I am working on a blue egg laying, cushion combed, bearded and non bearded, possibly a small crest, project. One of the colors will be autosexing. I have crossed many brown egg layers into the mix so I know this project is going to be a long one.
