Well, I had a bad today. A couple days ago, somebody managed to get a cord caught in the freezer door. We lost over $600 worth of meat. I hauled it off today along with an old fence we cut out of our trees. I stuffed several towel in the freezer (an upright), unplugged it and left it to thaw so I could wipe it down and disinfect it before we start the gradual process of restocking for winter ... now seriously behind.
They have changed things at the dump and the lady at the dump would not let me dump the meat and sent me somewhere else. They also do not just let you drive up to the dump site and toss stuff off the truck ... I had to untangle all that wire and toss it in a huge metal container about 10 feet tall. I could not reach without standing in the truck. My legs and arms look like I have been in a fight with a very angry cat from the pieces of barbed wire that tangled the pieces of 4x4 fence together. I got stung by a bee right as I finished. Cranky thing.
The guy at the other place was not happy to see me and said he was not supposed to let people dump things there. Without an argument, he relented, but did not make any attemp to hide his displeasure.
I have an e-check going through Monday and needed my paycheck today, but my boss is out of town until Tuesday and forgot to pay me. If I don't figure it out, there will be a $25 returned check fee on top of a $35 overdraft fee.
After the dump, I got home to a flood in the utility room. Half a dozen towels was NOT enough. Nasty meat germ water everywhere. Took me 4 hours to get everything moved out (including my Dad's 200 pound toolbox) and get the floor sopped up and mopped with bleach so I could wipe the freezer down.
I had 2 bags of layer, a bag of chick starter, and a bag of dog food in the wettest part of the floor. After moving the bags on top of a towel and letting them sit for a couple hours, I tried to empty them into another container. Both bags of layer exploded all over the utility room. I cussed and then laughed hysterically in a desperate attempt to avoid insanity. I had a heck of a time picking the wet stuff out of the dry, trying to save as much as I can, and probably threw out 25-30 pounds of feed. I got smart with the chick started and took it out of the bag one scoop at a time until I saw some wet. Probably only lost a couple pounds of that. The bag was not nearly as wet as the pellets were. Dog food was fine. It was in a plastic type bag ... of course, there was only about 2 cups left in there anyway.
I burned my finger on the bag of steamed peas in the microwave. There is a reason they are supposed to sit for a minute.
But, after reading your post about your poor birdy, my day no longer seems so bad. I am sorry about your bird
. I know how attached we get to the little critters.
