My two sons are skinny... they eat, not alot but they eat pretty much as much as they want when they want. They have always been in the 10th percental for weight and the doctors always worry that I am not feeding them enough and question their eating habits. My oldest son started school this year and I did notice he is one of the skinnest in the class.... but mny of his class mates looked.. well like they never lost their baby weight.... and I am starting to question why they are questioning me?? do they question those parents too?

i wouldnt even worry about it..if we listened to half the things doctors tell us, we would lose our minds worrying about it. i have a child who is so skinny, you can see his spine, ribs, everything but he eats like a horse. his older by one year brother is 6'3 and 200 pounds.
as long as they are eating and otherwise healthy, they are ok.

I used to really agonize over those percentiles myself. My son was always in about the 8th for weight and 15th for height. One day it dawned on me it's not worth the worry. As long as he's healthy and growing it's fine. He's never going to be in the nba but that's ok with me.

I swear though some of those charts are off. My sisters son is 5lbs less and 2 inches shorter than my son and her doctor says he's in the 40th percentile. One or the other doctor is wrong.

The Charts haven't changed in years, and the data they were made from was a survey of bottle fed white infants > teen years only. Many children mine included, don't follow the charts. If the boys are eating healthy food, and when they are hungry and are growing then they are fine. Part of why they may seem smaller could be the diets of thier classmates, my sons are natrually thin, but there are several kids thier ages who are... rounder, same ones who always seem to have a bag of sugary "snacks" in thier hand.

I don't worry about those things either, especially if they are following the pattern they have been following all along. I feel that the American population is steadily getting bigger and those charts have changed to reflect that. Don't sweat the small stuff!

Just ignore the doctors. My kids were all under 10% on the chart and I got flack from the doctors on all of them.

Its genetics

no matter how much I eat i can't gain weight. I know how your kids feel. if anyone has any advice on gaining weight let us know

My pedi doesn't tell me percentiles and I don't ask. As long as my son is healthy we don't care how he compares to the rest of the kids.

No, don't worry! my daughter is very petite, she was in the 15th percentile for weight for a long time. I was told as long as there are no "sudden" changes and she has a good appetite not to worry. As long as you are feeding them LOL ( I'm sure you are,

), there's nothing wrong. Some kids are just skinnier, or more active or whatever.

My younger son hovers around 15 percentile. Its just a number. If your child eats, plays, runs, grows, and acts like a kid it is nothing to worry about. What is cause for worry is a lethargic kid, a child whose percentiles rapidly go up or down for no apparant reason, a child who doesn't grow or a child that grows too fast. My son also is very skinny, with all bones visible. His tush is concave, not round. But he is a healthy happy almost 8-year old.
