So is being in the 10th percentale for weight all that bad???

When I was a kid I was and still am very thin. about once a year or so people would convence my mother I had a tape worm and needed to go to the doctor. The doctor would look at me and say she is just thin. i have heard it all my life and i am 54 years old today in fact.

two of the most painful references to being thin were once when i was around 10 my mom had a clothing store and i got a really cute swimsuit that i loved until one day when one of her customer said to her that she had wanted that suit in that size for her daughter and she gave it to me and it looked awful because i was so skinny.

the second was i had just taken a new job and the bosses boss was in the area and i was working late shift and knew who he was so in introduced myself. he took one look at me and said are you healthy. I was 34 at the time. i never could stand the man. i wish i had said no i have-------. some dread illness.

i had finally gotten up to 141 and my doctor was happy. I am 5 foot 8 inches so that was about right for my height. i dropped 20 pounds over 4 years due to chemo and radiation and then i developed TMJ so bad i could hardly eat. went into braces which helped the tmj but not the weight. I am finally 6 years later back up to 125.

don't dwell on them being thin it is painful to have people talking about you. my maiden name is Dedmon and i got the walking dead and also stick. heard endless jokes about running between raindrops and blowing away in the wind.

sorry it kind of hit a sore spot.

sorry about caps but i blew water in the computer reading something on the board and the shift key does not work. the caps lock does but it is a pain.

A BMI scale does not take into the account that muscle weighs more then fat.
and bone structure ...please remember that these scales and charts are an average based on the people studied and may not apply to your body type

According to the BMI charts at 5'6ish I should be about 140 for a male in his 30's. I haven't been 140lbs since 7th grade

In peak condition (6 months ago) I was just about 195.... so according to the charts and my doc I was 55 lbs overweight. I challenged them to an hour on the stair master then a workout. They declined

That's why I don't take those charts serious. They do not take bone structure or muscle mass into enough consideration. If they had more categories for that chart......

No. It's better than being in the 110th%. We have 2 adopted kids that have always been skinny. They eat plenty. They just have high metabolism's. The only reason I mention adopted is because if they had my genes they would be fat by now. People in my family are fat unless they stay on a constant diet.

All of my children were under the 45% in weight and above the 75% in height. They are all adults, now, and all are normal, healthy and very active. I wouldn't worry about it.. If they eat a big var. of fresh fruits/veggies (my kids wouldn't eat them unless they were raw) and they eat a balanced diet.... I would not worry about what the doctors say..

When my nephew (40yo) was a little fellow, my sister worried about him because he refused to eat.. He didn't want to sit still to eat and my sister would not let him eat 'on the run'..His doctor told my sister NOT to worry he would eat when he was hungry.. He turned out to be a health nut...

My oldest daughter is thin. She's 12, is 5' 8" and weighs 92 pounds. She is thin, and honestly has been since she was around 4. She plays soccer, basketball, and volleyball. She prefers to eat salads and doesn't eat much junk food at all. I get letters from her school stating that she is underweight. It's like getting a slap in the face because she CHOOSES to eat healthy and exercise!

Her physician has told me several times to not worry because she uses her energy to grow UP, not OUT. I try not to worry, but I still do!

It's funny, almost as if people expect kids to be overweight, and if they're thin, then people think they're NOT healthy!

my two younger daughters are waaaaaaaaaay off the charts... the middle was shorter but still way off for the weight. but i stil don't know why. they were both chubs.. and i love them both. both had rolls and wrinkles and creases, and my middle one thinned out fine.. and the youngest is on her way. not once have i ever heard a bad thing about them being over weight(yet) but i find it awful that people have the nerve to ask if you are healthy just cuz you are thin.

if i went by the charts... at 5 foot id have to weigh like 115.. and if i did id look like a stick.a really sick stick. i weighed 135 after having my oldest DD and i looked terrible. my ribs showed, my eyes were sunk into my head, my collar bones showed. i just looked sick.
