Well, we are building our coop after all. Just got back from Lowes, funny story...the guy from Lowes comes to help hubby get the studs down when all of a sudden he asks: "Is this to build a chicken coop?" LOL Hubby and I looked at each other like: "How the heck does he know?!" I say yes why? And the guy says: "Oh cause you are only the fifth people in here this week buying the materials to build a chicken coop!!" Have chickens all of a sudden become popular???? Then the guy asks: "Is there something about chickens I should know?" LOL

yeah chickens are all of a sudden the IT thing. Who cares that for hundreds of years people have raised chickens. All of a sudden cool people said this is great, and it became popular.

Funny thing is a lot of them do not realize that is isn't as glamorous as the magazines and books make it out to be ha ha ha.

What do you MEAN there will be POOP?!?!

Glamor is all in perspective. I find it extremely glam when I find chicken poop on my pants 2 days after I was holding one of the girls. Nothing says glamorous fashion like crunchy poop on your clothes. What about the squishy one you always seem to step and doesn't fall off til you get back into the house. Nothing like trudging down to the coop at 5am during the summer when they are screaming to get out and they don't care if you haven't had coffee yet. Not to mention when its raining, snowing or blowing cold. Or my favorite the old broken egg in the jacket deal. The Red Carpet has nothing on us chicken peeps.

In my youth, I hand- raised abandoned puppies and kittens and found homes for them. (Local animal control officers and veterinarian knew I did this and they'd call me when they picked up or were brought baby animals. I drew the line at dogs and cats.

I can tell you raising day old chicks is a snap compared to bottle feedings every two hours for ANY length of time; dealing with chick waste is certainly much less messy than having to stimulate newborn bowels to evacuate feces.

I love my canine and feline companions, but am so glad I've "graduated" to incubating, hatching and raising chickens. Lots less mess, really, even if kittens do learn to use a litter box fairly young.

I feed my dogs and clean up their poop. I feed my cats and clean out their litter box. It all goes into the trash.

I feed my poultry and only flick off the occasional bit of poop, or use a paper towel, and I get eggs, my yard is practically bug-free, and THAT poop is great for the garden!

Much better deal, methinks.

X2!! I could have written it all myself!
Only thing I would add is my GSD's would die to eat the chicken poop

! I get the 5 of them trailing behind me after coming out of the coop eating the poop that comes off of my shoes

LOL, when I went to Home Depot the other day to pick up some things, there was another lady and her 2 sons talking to the salesman about their coop .. after conversing with him she decided they would go home and rethink their plan and come back

I was asking questions at Home Depot, and found the sales guy has a large flock of quail. He proved to be a great resource. I also ran into several other people rhere who were building coops. Of course, I only made three or four trips a day to Home Depot during the construction process.
