I pulled an onion from a bag that had sprouted bright green shoots a couple inches long. It looked kind of pretty, so I stuck it sprouts end up in a jar of water and put it in the window sill. Within just a couple days it started growing roots like crazy from the water end and the sprouts at the top have grown a lot! My question is, what do I do with it now? Should I just leave it in the jar of water and cut the green part off to use in cooking and let it re-grow and keep doing that, or should I plant the whole onion in dirt, and if so, how? It's doing quite nicely in the jar, but I don't know what to do with it now...

English chick always said to keep a sliced onion by your doors...something about helping aid in fighting cold germs....makes me think of this.

Yeah, I guess it would be fine just sitting there in the window, I just wasn't sure if it would rot, or if there was something much better I could be doing with it. The two plant cuttings on each side of it have been in the bottles of water for almost 2 years now. I never potted them, they're just growing hydroponically I guess.

The onion is shadowed from the sun in the pic I posted, but it actually does look kind of pretty there.

I think it's pretty just as it is! I once had a sweet potato vine grow halfway around my room, when I was a kid. Why can't we have fun?!
