For decades CX were THE meat bird of choice, but now there are so many new ones hitting the scene.
There are Freedom Rangers (same as Red Rangers, I think),
Black Rangers,
Dixie Rainbow (aka Rainbow or Pioneer)
Bresse,
and many more.
If any of you know of others, could you list them, please? I know I've seen some others at some of the hatchery websites, I just can't think of them off the top of my head.
A long time ago, before CX, there were other breeds raised for meat, such as Delawares and New Hampshires, but not ordinary dual purpose strains. There were supposed to be meat strains which grew faster and bigger. I hear those are also making a comeback.
