So many choices

I use poop boards- I only average 6 chickens at any time, so not all that much poop. I dump the boards into a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. When the bucket fills, I put it in the gardens- at least from September to January- any time other than that, I put water in the bucket and use manure tea in the gardens - but that IS smelly.

We have a 4x8' raised coop. We have used to have poop boards. Removed them to redesign the roost. We wanted to extend the roost and lower it a bit. It was too close to the ceiling and a too high for a non walk-in coop. We expanded from 8' to 12' of roost length. This was to allow more options for integration. So for this winter we are non poop boards. We are adding pine shavings as needed. We might do a mid winter quick clean out.

In the spring we will figure out how to put poop boards back in. FWIW, the integration went well.

Ten birds and i rake my boards every four or five days. its best/easiest to rake every other and after three weeks of not cleaning i have to place all the sweet PDZ.
no smell, no flies and i sell bags of fertilizer form the compost pile of poop. Selling eggs and poop pays for my feed .
