Hi friends! I posted a few days ago about my Dandelion and her molting behavior. She is definitely molting and at the stage where feathers are coming in. She is pretty lethargic but will free range a bit during day. She stays away from flock mostly and has not been eating much at all this past week. The only thing I could get her to eat was scratch and watermelon. She is drinking a lot of water. Tonight I finally got her to eat a little tuna and micro greens and corn out of my hand… while she was eating I noticed her nose was runny and she was shaking her head. Can they have mild runny nose with molting? I don’t hear any sneezing and haven’t noticed the runny nose outside of when she eats? Thoughts? I have Vetrx, vitamins, fish antibiotocs? Could this just be part of her molt? I’m glad to see she ate a little.. I hope she is going to be ok! Thanks for any help.. I’m worried about her. ☺️🙏🏻

I’m sorry no one has replied yet. I hope this helps some others see your post. I don’t know much about molting behavior, but does she have any other symptoms that could point to a respiratory infection?

Hi :) thanks for the reply.. no other respiratory symptoms I can see.. I actually just checked her nose while she was roosting and totally dry. Seems to be doing when eating.. which is infrequent because of molting. She is lethargic.. but that’s a molting symptom too.. that’s the problem.. all the symptoms are so similar 😂 She was shaking head when eating and I could feel the wet hit me from nose but I’m not seeing any runny nose other than that time… I’m stumped! Lol! I’m glad she ate a little! Maybe someone has some advice. ☺️

You know, sometimes their bedding or even their food causes really fine dust particles in the air. Maybe those are causing her to sneeze and shake her head to clear out her nostrils. I agree with you about the molting symptoms being similar to other illnesses. The feather dander is a great point, too. Sometimes mine have tiny droplets fly from their nose or mouth after eating, but they are completely healthy, so figure unless i notice a decline of sorts, it’s nothing to worry about. Maybe their food is dusty or juicy causing the wet drops since you say it’s mainly after eating? I would watch her carefully and be sure nothing seems worse.

Thank you! You’re right about the food! It was juicy and wet… maybe that was it! I’ll check her nose when I get home today. I peeked when she was on roost and it was dry 🙏🏻
