@BirdGirl2004 and @HuskerHens18 - with the pvc elbow feeder made from the trash can, do you cap the holes at night to keep rodents out? (I'm making aart's feeder because I can just pop it into a metal trash can at night)

No. I have a raised coop so I don't have rodents. I leave it open 24/7

Nice! We are building a raised coop, but we have loads of tiny field mice and voles which will be able to get through 1/2" hardware cloth, so I'm planning on keeping food locked up at night.

It's probably the safest idea . I have a cat who sleeps underneath the coop so I don't worry too much.

Fermented feed is what I use. I feed them twice a day, and they eat every grain. the feed swells and sticks together, so doesn't get scattered around. They forage in between feedings.

I built the pvc pipe feeders and the chickens were even messier with those! For some reason they haven't been making as much mess lately, so I am hoping they have settled down.
