Currently I have 1 Rouen and 1 Runner duck on eggs. They were worrying me at first, both would sit all day long then be off the nest all night. It got so bad that I took 12 eggs away from the Rouen and at least 8 (over the course of a few days) away from the Runner. But they are both stuck like glue to their nests now, so we should have babies in a few weeks!

I have yet to have a mama with babies, I had 1 Rouen go broody last year (probably the same one, truth be told), but we had a terrible rat problem. She hatched 8 of her 9 eggs and lost all the babies. Egg #9 hadn't hatched before nightfall, so in the morning I took it away and put it in the brooder. The rats are gone, so I plan to let mamas keep their babies...at least for a little while...just so I can watch their antics

Anyone else with 'non-broody' broodies?
