So much wasted feed!

I use a hanging feeder, set high enough that they have to reach just a bit to get to the feed, pelleted feed, and when they knock too much out on the floor, I don't fill the feeder for a day or so. They clean up the spilled feed pretty fast.

have a metel feeder that i put on a cinder block on the coop floor and the spilled TONS of feed and never ate it back up so i had to scoop it up with a dust pan and dump it back in the feeder the feed on the coop floor was at least 2 / half to 3 inches deep on the floor thats alot so now i hang it from the ceiling in the coop but they still spill some feed not as much but still a fair amount what the heck i dont get it tryd lots of ways

Do you have a picture?

Sorry I don't but really, jsut cut a hole in the shape of a circle in the lid about 4 or 5 inch big and fill it with feed.

Wasting food is more than just a waste of hard-earned money. It is often the first step in perpetuating the cycle of disease and infection.

Here's a link to some alternative methods of feeding and housing that can go a long way to preventing both.

6chickens in St. Charles has hit the nail on the head. Only put ut as much as the birds can eat in a short time.
Also, use grains, a mixture of millet, wheat, corn and oats for example. Do away with crumbles and pellets entirely and switch to an extruded kibble supplement instead. No waste, no mold and greatly increased nutrition.

Hubby says he likes the sound of this one - do you have a pic?

If you do this, I recommend using 2 45degree bends with a little bit of straight pipe in the middle, otherwise the pellets dont flow very well, they have a tendancy to pile just under the 90degree and just stop
