Winnie had her brother and Mother killed and few months ago then she started laying eggs approximately 12 and has been sitting on them for 3wks now and I wonder how long will she sit on them before she gives up?. I put a stuffed animal in the box with her and she comes in every day to see me since I am still Mom who hatched her and she goes out to her pool which is fenced in like fort Knox after what happened. She is safe on the back porch and since she started laying weeks after her brother was killed,..I guess I am asking I have read they have the ability to hold or discard wanted or unwanted sperm. He was mounted both her and Mom before all this happened. I tried putting Moms eggs and Winnies eggs in the incubator for 10 days and checked for signs of fertilization and nothing. At least this keeps her busy but she has seen her Mom and brother killed and I hate to see so much disappointment in her little life. So probably no chance fertile eggs? And how long will she sit if nothing happens?
Thoughts? Experiences anyone???

That's Winnie getting ready to get back to sitting on her eggs in the box I used to put her and her brother, Roxy in to sleep in. She has the wood chips and her own feathers and a stuffed animal to keep her company.

I've read a lot of people will put babies under them at night to cheer them up and give them the companionship they need. If the eggs are not fertile, could you purchase a few babies and give that a try? Our feed store already has them in stock. TBH I was hoping one of my ducks would go broody to add a few to the flock.
