So my job is going away in 9 mos. What to do to prepare my family?

I lost my job Dec 2006 and have not found anything that paid like my old job. I took early retirement and work as a substitute teacher. Downsize as much as you can and you will be OK Less really is more, I help at missions and could not be happier with my life but when I lost my job I was down for a long time until I changed my thinking and my life is better than when I was making 5 times the pay. Good luck to you, I noticed you are in NC and this state is difficult to find work that pays.

Everything everyone else said, plus I would suggest you start looking for a job right. Don't plan on being unemployed in 9 months, plan on finding a new job in the next 6 months. I've seen wonderful advice for getting through, saving up, and planning for being unemployed. But if you start looking for your next job right now you might find a great opportunity staring you in the face that you've missed. You are not required to stay in a job you know is ending, and if you find another I'm sure the job are in would more than understand that taking care of family and livelihood comes first. If you find another job now, instead of later, you don't have to worry about selling your home unless you just want to get out of there and into something else anyway.
