After several months of working with my golden retreiver who has constantly tried to raid my chicken coop and earlier this early summer did get a couple of chickens, after working with her all summer I believe I'm making progress with her!
I tie her up when a let the chickens range and this afternoon while I was working the garage, I notice the turkeys and chickens coming up around the front of the garage and to my astonishment, two turkeys and several chickens were raiding the dog's food and water (I keep her ties up in the front yard while the chickens usually run in the back yard and near the garden) all with in easy reach of the dog! it wasn't like in the past when she was sleeping and they would sneak up but she was up and right next to them!!
I was SO proud of her!! Now I think part of it is that the dog is smart, she knows that even if she goes after one, the chickens can get away now the turkeys are a different story, they don't spoke easy which is what get's the dog going but for anyone out there with a problem with their dog and chickens, there is hope it just takes time!!
