My 5 hens are 20 weeks and not an egg in sight. RIR, Buff Orp, blk sex link, easter egger and GLW. They all look healthy and happy... chucked a few golf balls in the nests today... the wait continues..

Are you giving them layer food? Giving them layer food, especially in the mornings, should get them laying. I read this in a book and tried it on my pullets. It worked for me.

Don't worry they will lay eggs. Eventually. Mine just turned 24 weeks and only one has started laying this week. I have now gotten five eggs from her. One more looks waaay ready and the rest are getting there, slowly. I don't know why some take longer but you can't rush mother nature. I know how you feel waiting.

Thanks. I just started them on layer. Didn't want to buy the chick feed anymore since the combs are red and waddles are big. Sure look ready... but just hanging in.

Our chickens teach us so many things.... including patience... :)

I'm a new flock owner and was anticipating the fist eggs also! My Red Sex-Link began around 18 weeks, but we barely got our first egg from our Black Australorp today, at around 22/23 weeks of age. We're still waiting on our Ameracauna which recently received the nickname "Infertile Murtle".

Good luck, and don't lose hope! Our RSL has laid 36 eggs in a row since she began laying... so it pays off!

the first hen started laying maybe 2 plus weeks ago - then had a few off days and now seems like daily. the 2nd one - just laid her first egg this AM. hope this helps. Just hang in there!

RRRRGGGGG! I'm in the same boat! I have 4 (2 Australorps and 2 Golden Sex Links). One of the Golden Sex Links has been laying everyday for 19 days! What's the hold up with the others?!? Red combs and wattles? Check... Squatting? Check... Fussiness? Check... Rearranging the nest box? Check... One frustrated hobby chicken farmer ready to squeeze them until eggs pop out? Check....

Have you checked for garden nests? They often lay in underlying rubble and shrub, so keep an eye out :)
