Had the scariest thing happen a couple of hours ago. I just calmed down.

I had my farm dogs that keep all the predators away, inside for their dinner, when a strange dog, a boxer mix I think, tried to get my ducks. Had one of my Runners, Blue Girl, in his mouth and was heading for the fields! I heard the duck doing that "panic" loud quack they do, didn't even think about myself, booked it out there, screamed, ran at the dog and threw a brick at it. It dropped the duck and turned to me barking, just in time for my dogs to run around the corner and VIOLENTLY and SCARILY chase the dog away. (GOOD BOYS!) I guess I got out there just in time. Blue Girl has not one wound or injury. So lucky. But man.. that was scary. I am giving my dogs extra treats tonight.

We live on such a large farm that we rarely have any strange dogs come around. 2nd time in maybe 5 years. Probably has something to do with my dogs chasing EVERYTHING off,(even the deer

) because we never see any other predators either and on 266 acres of Christmas trees thats saying something!

I did do my detective work and find the owners. I did not call the dog catcher, but they've been warned. I am a dog lover too, but if their dog comes back on to my farm and attacks my ducks, we will shoot first and ask questions later. Sounds harsh, I know, and I would HATE to have to do it. But I will.

Man.... that was so scary!

I'm glad you addressed the situation with the dog owner. For them, it's like Kelly Bundy once said, "To be forewarned is to have four arms."

Seriously, glad it turned out on a positive note for the duck; GOOD DOGS!

What good dogs. Give them lots of extra treats. Nice to hear nice dog stories. Glad it all turned out great.
