So have spent the last week getting brooder ready to the very last detail, while awaiting delivery of my ducklings today. Or so I thought. Here I was waiting (patiently?) by the phone, hoping the next ring will be the feed store telling me my babies are here.
Couldn't wait any longer so decided to call them (they must be so annoyed with me by now) and ask if they knew approx what time to expect them....she said Thursday at the latest.

I guess today was hatch/ shipping day...and NOT delivery day as I had previously thought. I am so disappointed I'm trying to hold back the tears. Have to keep reminding myself they'll be here soon...everything is ok, they are still coming... but I want them NOW! How the heck do you all deal with this anticipation?!? I imagine the incubating is probably even more nail biting/ and exciting.

Even worse....how am I gonna break this to my 5 yr old whose first words as he popped out of bed were "TODAY IS DUCKY DAY!!!"? uh oh.

Broke the news to ds, who was heartbroken until I told him they ARE in the mail... just that momma jumped the gun thinking they would be here today. He's taking it well now. Will have to share news with dd who is expecting to come home to duckies tonight.

On a positive note, I will use this extra time to convince DH that we NEED 4 ducks instead of 2 as they accidentally doubled my order and he did make the house large enough for 4!

Take this time to do your final checks. Food, vitamins, heat lamp, etc. Then make a ducky party cake for your family and follow that with a duck naming contest. Can be fun and kills time. Google some sites for baby names and make a list of the names you like. Time will be gone in no time and you are busy taking care of duck babies. Trust me you will be so busy that you don't even know what hit you.

Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm! Sometimes when I am up to my elbows in poop soup, I pause and remember how wonderful it was the day our eleven runners arrived. It is still wonderful. I am just much more tired!
