We have a very friendly hen, our beautiful Lady, who likes to be held and cuddled. My DH trained her to jump up on his lap to be hand fed (thanks Honey!) So yesterday, I was walking around the yard and the girls were free ranging and following me around, when Lady decided she wasn't getting enough attention. She pecked at my boots and pulled at my skirt and when I turned around she flew vertically straight up in the air and landed on my head! Very gently I might add. . . she's a banty who probably weighs in at a couple of pounds. I have hats that weight more.

I had a full size game hen fly on my head, not gently and more than once. Knocked my glasses off once. Scared the poo out of me. My blue andalusian will fly on my arm when I am holding the treat bucket.

Chickens can fly short distances that enable them to get to high roosts at night. Smaller breeds that are lighter tend to have better flying capabilities. Also, it helps when their bodies are the more streamlined type versus the round type.

Sounds funny, she knew how to get your attention.
